Latest PTE Argumentative Essay – Smoking should be banned in public places
‘Smokers have rights too. They should be allowed to smoke in public’. If that’s how you feel, then every drug should have an allowance. Weed, heroin, opium etc. should be done in public. Then every drug addict should have this right, no? On one hand there’re talks about how to fight the drug menace and on the other hand, people talk about the ‘smoker’s rights’.
If smoking is done in public, the main problem is caused for the non-smokers. It’s almost impossible for someone who doesn’t smoke to breathe in a cigarette’s smoke. The smoke is not only harmful to the smokers, but to those also who inhale in that air. Teenagers are the most vulnerable. When they see someone doing drugs, they have an urge to try them, sometimes out of curiosity and sometimes to look cool. (yeah, a lot of people think that doing drugs makes them look cool).
Drugs can not be banned, we all know that. Drug mafias generate a lot of revenue for the government, so the government would never do anything to fully eradicate this menace from our society. isn’t it our responsibility to be aware and spread awareness among others?
The harm which is done to the smoker is done (various cancers, impotency and many more), but temporary exposure to the smoke causes nausea, breathing problems, headaches to others too. And what about the cigarette litter? Smokers smoke and litter the place with cigarette butts. The smell of the cigarettes is so unpleasant and annoying. No one should be forced to leave their workplace in the name of health.
Those who think that smoking ban in public places like bars and restaurants would result in the reduction in sales tax and employment should know that the ban has no negative impact on the hospitality industry. Another argument made by smokers is that any irritation can be dealt with ventilation. It’s just another way to deny the harmful effects of smoking on others. The tobacco industry has put much effort into masking the odor and visibility of harmful tobacco smoke.
Even if smoking is not banned in public places, other people’s health should be respected.
