Ayushman Bharat Yojana also famous as Modi care is an ambitious centrally sponsored scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2018, at Bijapur, Chattisgarh with two major objectives i.e to create a network of health and wellness infrastructure and providing insurance cover to 40% of India’s population deprived of secondary and tertiary care.

The Nodal Ministry for this mission is Ministry of Health and family welfare and Indu Bhushan is appointed as Chief Executive officer.
Major advantages of this mission are that it will cover over 10 crores poor and vulnerable family i.e (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) providing coverage up to 5 lakh rupee for a family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation in both public and empanelled hospitals. Along with the opening of 1.5 lakh health centre, our government also targets to control the cost of treatment by fixing a package rate on different treatment. This mission will scheme ongoing scheme i.e Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and senior citizen health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS).
On ground level implementation of this mission some challenges may come in the way such as low participation of states as West Bengal, Odisha, Delhi are not participating in poor infrastructure, very less awareness regarding health insurance as the survey found that 80% of rural and 82% of the urban population were still not covered under any scheme.
This mission will prove to be a game changer not only by arranging trained and qualified manpower such as Doctor, Nurse, and health worker but also by spreading awareness through campaigning, arranging a seminar, appointing social health worker. In this way, the world’s largest government-funded health programme will build a new India till 2022.
